The games we play

The dinner party went swimmingly! Truly, I laughed until my cheeks hurt and the food was rather nice, even if I do say so myself.
The best bits however, involved a game that I first saw played on that King amongst reality shows, Come Dine With Me. I thought up a simple task for each guest, wrote it down, hid it beneath their first course plates and once we'd all taken our seats at the table the games began.

The idea is to perform your task without the other diners realising it, so subtlety is the name of the game. Alas, I don't have many subtle friends, however gullibility is a character trait a couple of them have in spades. Sweet Lord, there were moments when I thought I was going to laugh my dinner back up!

Each guest had the duration of the meal to carry out their allotted jobs with the grand reveal happening over the cheesecake.

So, what was hidden under the smoked salmon, creme fraiche, lemon, caper and dill blini's....?

An infatuation with Wayne Rooney
An awful case of Athletes Foot, made worse by all the Olympic coverage
A pumpkin phobia
A 'Dick van Dyke' Cockney accent
At least three occasions when the youngest guest called the oldest man at the table 'Dad'
And a honking comedy laugh from someone the rest of the table barely knew.

Good times!

  4. Wish I could teleport myself to your next party madame. Sounds a blast, love the things you made them do.
Been playing Would You Rather with my students today. Best 3 q's are Would you rather be hairy all over or completely bald? Have diarrohea for a week or constipation and would you rather be on a desert island alone or with someone you hate? Last one solved by one sicko that they'd have someone they hated, then wouldn't have to hunt for food and could eat the enemy.

  5. That sounds hilarious and far more fun then a murder mystery - not that I've ever participated in one of those.....really.
